The Great Nicotine Replacement Therapy Hoax

The Great Nicotine Replacement Therapy Hoax

Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) e.g. patches or gumhas a success rate of 1 in 10. This means that 9 out of 10 people will fail to quit smoking using nicotine replacement therapy. Almost 500,000 people die every year in the United States from smoking related illnesses and sometimes from direct and indirect NRT use.

Popularity

So if NRT is such a failure then why is it so popular i hear you ask. This is down to clever marketing by the drug companies and misguided information given by doctors and so-called professionals.

NRT Safety

The drug companies also claim that NRT is safe, but how true is this statement? Well considering that almost a quarter of patch users and half of gum chewers will experience side effects, its safety is questionable to say the least.
Here are some reported side effects;

Headache
Dizziness
Upset stomach
Weakness
Vivid dreams
Blurred vision
Mild burning on the skin
Diarrhoea

Why on earth would you want to experience such things when you should be trying to quit with as little stress as possible. Going through these kind of problems while quitting will only lower your chances of not making it to the promised land. Now we can begin to understand why nicotine replacement is not all what its cut out to be.

Doctors know nothing!

Imagine your driving instructor has never driven in his life? How could you possibly get behind the wheel when you were taught by someone who has never driven? The same goes for some doctors. They've never smoked in they're lives but yet they give you advice on how to quit!

How on earth could they possibly understand what life is like to rely on that little stick every day. Truth is they don't. They know no more about the effectiveness of NRT than i do about rocket science. In fact the worst thing you can do while contemplating quitting smoking is visiting your doctor. Trust me they don't have a clue.

Death caused by NRT

Imagine the amount of time people have wasted trying to quit using NRT. These are precious weeks/months that often mean the difference between life and death.

It is not unheard of for a person to spend x amount of weeks or months trying to quit using NRT only to relapse and then get a terminal illness. Those weeks/months wasted could have been spent on much more effective ways and could have ultimately saved their lives. Its a sad state indeed.

Don't be a sucker!

There are much more effective ways to quit smoking. Please don't be one of the nine people to fail using NRT. Please don't get sucked into the scam, get out now if you're already there. Save your money and your life by following more effective ways of quitting smoking.

So where to next?
